Multi-car accident in New York injures 8

Weather conditions and driver distractions are among the leading causes of automobile accidents in the United States. While most drivers take necessary precautions when traveling in severe weather, not everyone on the road exercises the same good judgement. Road conditions appear to be at least one of the factors contributing to a recent multi-car accident in New York.

According to reports, the accident occurred near 56th St. on the Gowanus Expressway in Brooklyn, New York. Multiple 911 calls began coming in around 8 p.m. on Tuesday following the chain-reaction of crashes. The 31-car pile-up in the eastbound lanes resulted in major delays for traffic traveling in both directions.

Emergency service personnel worked diligently to clear the blocked road, and to remove injured victims from the crash. Eight people were taken to a local hospital for treatment. Their injuries are thought to be non-life threatening. While icy road conditions appear to have played a role in the accident, investigators have yet to report whether or not other factors may have contributed.

If an investigation shows any of the parties involved in the multi-car accident acted with negligence, the injured victims may elect to file a personal injury claim in civil court. Expenses resulting from an unforeseeable accident often leave a heavy financial burden on the victims. In New York, those injured in a car accident reserve the right to seek financial compensation for their losses. A successful personal injury claim can provide victims with a much-needed financial recovery after a costly accident.
