New York City's has strict rules regarding the number of points that taxi cab drivers are allowed to accumulate on their license. If they choose not to abide by the traffic laws, their livelihood will be at risk. A taxi related car accident can put residents in danger both inside and outside the vehicle. Pedestrians and cyclists are often the most vulnerable on busy city streets.

According to recent reports, one driver's taxi cab careened onto the sidewalk at Third Avenue and East 86th Street around 1:45 p.m. Friday afternoon. Three people were injured. The victims were transported to a local New York hospital to receive treatment for their injuries. The condition of the victims has not been released.

The events surrounding the accident are not clear at this time. Investigators are looking into what may have caused the crash and how the cab ultimately ended up on the sidewalk. Initial reports could not determine whether the injured victims were occupants of the taxi cab or were pedestrians. The investigation of the incident is ongoing.

Should the investigation show that any negligent actions of the taxi driver led to the crash, the injured victims may decide to pursue a personal injury claim in civil court. In New York, victims injured in a car accident reserve the right to seek financial redress for their losses if negligence can be proven as the proximate cause of their injuries. Injuries sustained in an accident can have a devastating impact both physically and financially. A successfully litigated personal injury claim can help to ease a victim's financial burdens and allow them to focus on their physical recovery.
