Fatal accident in New York kills 1, injures 6 on Interstate 87

A car accident can have a devastating and lasting impact on those involved. When someone is lost unexpectedly in a crash, feelings of grief and uncertainty can be overwhelming for the family members left behind. A recent fatal accident in New York claimed the life of one man and left six other victims injured.

Visibility issues caused by a plow truck engulfed in smoke on the shoulder of Interstate 87 are being blamed for a fatal accident in New York. According to reports, a vehicle had to swerve from the lane it was traveling in due to poor visibility, which caused it to strike another. A third car also sideswiped the blade of the plow truck. A slowing Toyota Prius was then hit in the rear by a tractor-trailer. The impact of that collision forced the Prius to rear-end a second tractor-trailer.

In total, seven vehicles were involved in the pileup. The driver of the Toyota Prius was pronounced dead at the accident site. Six other injured victims were transported to an area hospital for treatment. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

If it can be proven that negligence was a factor in the fatal accident, the surviving family members of the victim may elect to pursue a wrongful death claim in civil court. Personal injury claims may similarly be pursued by the victims injured in the crash. New York residents reserve the right to seek compensation for losses suffered as a result of another party's negligence, and in the event of a fatal accident, that right extends to the deceased victim's surviving family. The unexpected cost associated with an accident can be financially devastating. A successfully litigated claim can help to relieve the financial burdens likely placed on the victims and surviving family members, allowing them to focus primarily on their healing.
