New York police say impaired driver caused fatal accident

Many New York residents may share the concern of the authorities about the number of deaths on our roads that result from accidents caused by intoxicated teenage drivers. What often starts as an evening of fun could have an adverse effect on the remainder of a young person’s life if they choose to drive after consuming alcohol and/or drugs. Moreover, the lives of a family who loses a loved one in a fatal accident will also be changed forever.

City settles wrongful death suit with family of fleeing man

New York City is apparently continuing to settle up on some important pending cases against the City. A $2 million settlement was just reached with the family of a 27 year-old man from Brooklyn who was killed in a pedestrian collision with a police car two years ago. The wrongful death complaint against the Police Department alleged that the man was unarmed and running on foot from the police when the pursuing squad car went onto the sidewalk in his path and caused a collision with him. He died of massive head injuries from the collision and/or from falling over on his head immediately after being struck.

One-car fatal accident leaves passenger dead in upstate New York

A one-vehicle accident in New York can be the basis for a personal injury claim if there were passengers involved. Such accidents tend to include collisions with poles, trees or even buildings. One or more occupants may be ejected, either in a rollover or as the vehicle makes impact with a tree or other unyielding object. The event can easily become a fatal accident due to such perilous factors. Consequently, whenever there are one or more passengers in a vehicle that is driven so negligently that it leaves the roadway and crashes, the prospect for injury or death to the passengers looms large.

Mother of infant facing multiple charges after car accident

A New York driver who reportedly had her license suspended on 23 previous occasions allegedly admitted to police that she had smoked crack cocaine prior to running down a bicyclist and then driving off. She is now facing multiple charges and is being held on bail of $100,000 while she awaits a scheduled preliminary hearing. The 32-year-old mother of a baby that is only a week old was arrested several days after the car accident when she attempted to admit herself to a hospital.
