26-year old woman killed in Manhattan pedestrian accident

The busy streets of Manhattan are crowded with various motor vehicles, bikers and pedestrians on a daily basis. With so many people on the move, the risk for an accident is high. A 26-year old woman recently lost her life when she became the victim of a pedestrian accident on the Upper West Side.

The victim was attempting to cross the road at Broadway and West 96th Street around 5:00 a.m. on a recent Sunday morning when she was struck by the driver's side mirror of an ambulance. The impact caused her to fall into the eastbound lane of West 96th Street, where she was then run over by a sedan. The Manhattan woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are working to prevent similar pedestrian accidents from happening in the future. The turning lane on Broadway leading to 96th Street has been blocked in an effort to change traffic patterns and make the neighborhood safer for pedestrians. Residents have stated that the area is very busy and blame a newly constructed subway stop for an increase in foot traffic.

If the police investigation shows either driver acted negligently in this case, the victim's family may consider filing a wrongful death claim in civil court. The surviving family members of the Manhattan pedestrian accident victim reserve the right to seek financial restitution for their losses if they can show that another party's negligence was the proximate cause of the death of their loved one. No amount of money can compensate for the loss of a loved one. However, a successful wrongful death claim may help to offset any financial burdens associated with the accident and may even provide the family with some sense of closure as they struggle with their grief.
