Man hit by 2 different vehicles in New York pedestrian accident

Pedestrians can be found crossing the streets of New York at all times of the day and night. Although pedestrians should follow street crossing rules, it is also up to motorists to keep a watchful eye out for individuals crossing the street and yield accordingly. When this does not happen, it can result in a tragic pedestrian accident.

A man was recently struck by two separate vehicles in Queens. He died from injuries suffered in the accident. The wreck occurred just prior to 8 p.m. on a recent weekday. He was at the intersection of 62nd Street and Metropolitan Avenue.

The out-of-state man was in the process of crossing the street when a white van struck him in the roadway. Police say the van driver then left the accident scene. A second vehicle struck the man while he was lying on the street. The driver of this vehicle stayed on scene until authorities arrived.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital. Sadly, he endured severe trauma to the head. He was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

It was not indicated whether he was in a designated crosswalk. If the accident report determines that he was, this is information that his family will want to use should they decide to pursue a civil lawsuit against the driver of the vehicle that struck and killed him. The driver of the first vehicle was eventually apprehended and charged for fleeing an accident scene involving a death.

When a pedestrian is up against a vehicle in New York, it is the pedestrian who almost always gets the shorter end of the stick. Nevertheless, injured pedestrians and their families have rights. A successful personal injury or wrongful death claim may result in an award of monetary damages that could relieve some of the financial burden left behind in the aftermath of a tragic pedestrian accident.
