Driver believed responsible for fatal truck accident arrested

Police have arrested the trucker believed responsible for a fatal crash on the New York State Thruway. The incident reportedly occurred in early October. One person lost his life in this truck accident.

According to a local news outlet, on Oct. 10, a tow truck driver — a 51-year-old male — was struck by a tractor-trailer while he was in the process of preparing to tow a disabled vehicle. This incident occurred at around 6 a.m., in Canajoharie. Sadly, this individual is said to have died of his injuries at the scene of the crash.

Authorities are still in the process of investigating the accident. The truck driver — a 41-year-old male — is facing several charges. These include failure to move over and speeding. It is unknown if any further charges are pending in this case. Court dates regarding this matter have not been reported.

When a truck accident proves fatal, the victim’s loved ones may have legal recourse. Wrongful death and any other applicable civil claims may be filed against the truck driver and his employer in an effort to seek compensation for their losses — which may include funeral expenses, lost income and benefits, loss of consortium and various other damages deemed recoverable in accordance with the laws of New York. While filing and litigating civil claims may not be easy on surviving family members, the monetary relief that may be awarded after a successfully managed claim can allow them to focus on grieving their loss and less on financial concerns. It may also grant them some sense of justice served
