Car accident victim achieves $9 million through litigation

Early in the morning of April 22, 2014 in New York, a limo driver sat in his vehicle drinking coffee, getting ready to start his day, when an MTA bus struck the back right side of his car. The car accident left the victim in quite a bit of pain and even caused him to experience a condition called foot drop. This made it impossible for him to return to his driving career.

After the accident, the victim went through a total of four surgeries in order to help correct the damage done from the crash. Unfortunately, even with medical treatment, this individual continues to suffer every day. In order to seek compensation for his losses, he chose to file a civil claim against the MTA. His case just recently came to a close.

According to a news report, a doctor was called to examine the victim and testify in court about his condition. This is common procedure in a personal injury case. However, while being cross-examined by the plaintiff’s attorney, the doctor admitted to being paid by the MTA to testify against the victim. This admission ended the case and resulted in the victim ultimately being awarded $9 million in damages.

It has been a long three years waiting for this verdict, but it was well-worth it as the sum awarded to the victim will cover any past, current and future medical bills, lost wages and even provide compensation for his pain and suffering. Other car accident victims in New York may have doubts about pursuing damages through legal means, which it is understandable as it can be a long and trying road. However, with the assistance of an experienced attorney, the right actions can be taken so that maximum compensation can be sought in a timely manner.
