Police in New York are investigating the cause of a crash between a school bus and a box truck. This truck accident reportedly occurred near the end of May in Queens. A total of 17 children were injured in the wreck.
At approximately 11 a.m., on May 26, a school bus was transporting children in the area of Brookville and Rockaway Boulevards. It was at this intersection that the bus and a box truck collided. As of the latest report, both drivers were unhurt in the wreck. No charges have been filed in this case as of yet. No other details about the crash have been released.
A total of 25 students were on board the bus when the accident occurred. Most of them required medical attention, though many of the injuries were believed to be minor in nature. The injured were taken to St. John’s Episcopal Hospital. The current conditions of the victims have not been reported.
For the drivers and children, being involved in such a frightening event has surely been a frightening ordeal. For those who were injured, the physical and financial damages have also likely taken quite a toll. While it is still unclear who was responsible for this bus versus truck accident, the parents of the injured children may pursue compensation for the losses they and their children experienced by filing civil claims against the party or parties believed responsible in a New York civil court after police conclude their investigation into this matter. Depending on the details of the event, claims may be filed against one or both drivers and their employers. If litigation proves successful, maximum relief may be awarded.
