Many areas of New York City are considered high foot-traffic areas. Drivers and pedestrians alike have to be careful and look out for each other. It is highly unfortunate that, yet again, another pedestrian accident with injuries has been reported.
According to a major media outlet, three people were hit by a car while they were walking near Penn Station. This incident occurred in the afternoon on Friday, Sept. 29. Thankfully, none of the injuries suffered by any of the victims are believed to be life-threatening. However, their current conditions have not been reported.
Several police officers, firefighters and emergency medical providers responded to the scene of the incident. The road was closed for quite some time as they tended to the victims and investigated the matter. As of the latest report, investigators believe that the driver was unable to stop his or her vehicle for the pedestrians due to an issue with the driver’s side floor mat.
When a pedestrian accident occurs, the victim or victims are often left with physical and psychological scars. On top of that, they tend to struggle financially as well due to the costs of medical care, rehabilitation and therapy — among other economic damages. The victims of this particular incident may be entitled to seek compensation by filing personal injury claims in a New York civil court against the driver deemed responsible for their losses. For such claims to be successful, driver negligence will need to be established to the satisfaction of the court. In those cases where this can be accomplished, monetary judgments may be awarded.
