Car accident in Manhattan injures 6

Police in New York are looking into the cause of a crash that left six people injured. This car accident occurred in Lower Manhattan on Thursday, Dec. 7. At this time no charges have been filed against the driver deemed responsible.

According to reports, a man driving a Lincoln Continental hit an SUV at the intersection of Liberty and Broadway. Two people on the sidewalk were injured in the wreck. The driver continued on after this initial accident, hitting a bicyclist, another car and then three other pedestrians before coming to a stop. Law enforcement officials do not believe that any of the injures suffered by the victims were life-threatening.

Initially, police believed this incident to be related to road rage. However, after further investigating the event, they now believe that the driver responsible may have suffered a medical event. This individual has been released from police custody. It is unclear if any criminal charges are pending against him.

The physical and emotional trauma that often accompanies being involved in a car accident like this may remain with the victims for the rest of their lives. These individuals may, according to the laws of New York, seek compensation for their losses by filing personal injury claims in civil court. Those individuals who are able to establish negligence to the satisfaction of the court may be awarded monetary judgments for any economic and non-economic damages sustained — such as medical expenses, lost wages, psychological trauma, pain and suffering and much more.
