Ruthie Anne Blumenstein is a Tony-award winning actress, known for her work in the "King and I." Recently, Mrs. Blumenstein, one of her friends and their children were involved in a pedestrian accident in New York. They are all said to have been hit while crossing a crosswalk in Brooklyn.
According to news reports, the victims had all just exited a bus and were crossing the street when a car, whose driver was allegedly trying to make it through a light, sped up and hit them. The two children -- a 4-year-old girl and a 1-year-old boy -- suffered fatal injuries. The two adults were also injured and transported to a hospital for treatment. Mrs. Blumenstein is said to be pregnant. The status of her unborn child was not reported.
The driver of the car -- a 44-year-old female -- claims that she had a seizure while driving. This, she claims, is what caused her to hit the women, their children, a parked car and another gentleman -- who is expected to recover. Police are looking into her medical history. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to have contributed to this event.
It seems that not a week goes by without hearing about someone who has been hit while crossing a crosswalk in New York. These accidents are far too common and they often have tragic results -- such as in this case. Ruthie Ann and her friend may be entitled to seek compensation for their losses by filing personal injury claims for themselves in civil court, as well as wrongful death claims for the loss of their children. The injured gentleman may also pursue legal claims in an effort to seek damages. If negligence can be successfully established against the driver, the court may grant monetary relief to the victims for all recoverable losses -- whether they are economic or non-economic in nature.
