Cyclist injured in truck accident

A New York man was riding his bike in Midtown when he was hit by a private sanitation truck. This is far from the first time a private sanitation truck has been involved in such an incident. In fact, the New York City Police Department says these vehicles are often involved in serious or deadly collisions. The victim of this most recent truck accident may be entitled to seek compensation for his losses.

According to reports, on Oct. 29, a 43-year-old male was riding his bicycle on 5th Avenue, near 47th Street, at approximately 10 p.m. when he was hit by the sanitation truck. The victim was promptly transported to NY Presbyterian Hospital. He is said to have suffered critical injuries, though he was last reported to be in stable condition.

Little information is known about the driver of the truck. This individual did remain at the scene and is said to be cooperating with authorities. It is unclear if any charges will be filed against this individual. Police are still in the process of investigating the collision.

Victims who survive truck accidents like this often have a long road to recovery before them. There is no saying how the victim of this particular truck accident will fair going forward or how this event will affect him in the long term. If the sanitation driver is thought negligent in this case, the victim may pursue damages by filing a personal injury claim against the driver and his or her employer in a New York civil court. If successfully navigated, such a legal claim could result in full and fair compensation being awarded to the victim and his family.
