Police looking for driver responsible for fatal accident

Law enforcement officials in New York are currently looking for the individual who caused a crash that injured one person and resulted in the death of another. This fatal accident occurred in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Sept. 10. When the driver deemed responsible is found, the surviving victim and the family members of the deceased may file legal claims against him or her in an effort to seek compensation for their losses.

Just before 1:30 am, a Honda SUV was headed northbound on 125th Street when it was hit by a car whose driver ran a red light at the 111th Ave. intersection. A video that accompanied a news report of this incident shows the SUV flying backward after its front end was struck. The driver of the impacted vehicle — a 56-year-old female — was trapped in the car and had to be freed by rescue workers. A passenger — a 72-year-old female — was ejected from the vehicle and died before help arrived.

According to reports, the driver responsible for the wreck fled the scene on foot just after the accident occurred. It is unclear if investigators have made any headway in identifying this individual. When they do, criminal charges are likely to be filed, as a hit-and-run accident is considered a serious offense in the state of New York.

This fatal accident has devastated several people. The surviving victim suffered injuries that may affect her for the rest of her life and also lost a friend in the crash, while the family members of the deceased have lost someone they hold dear, which will likely cause them emotional and financial stress moving forward. Thankfully, the laws of New York allow these individuals to seek relief for their losses through legal means. When the driver responsible is identified, personal injury and wrongful death claims may be filed in civil court against this individual in an effort to seek damages for all legally recoverable losses.
