The woman suffered critical injuries, including the severing of a foot, and was transported to Bellevue Hospital for care. The crossing guard also suffered injuries, but law enforcement authorities say that the injuries were not severe. The current conditions of both victims are unknown.

After hitting the pedestrians, the driver — a 27-year-old male — is said to have lost control of the vehicle and hit a light pole. Shortly after the event, this individual was arrested and charged with drunk driving, vehicular assault and a number of other offenses. A bail hearing has already taken place. It is unclear when his case will actually go to trial.
