Recent crash in Manhattan injures 2 pedestrians

On Sunday, June 21, police in New York responded to a car crash that left three people injured. Two vehicles were involved, as were two pedestrians -- who were both injured. Another person with an unknown connection to the collision was also hurt.

According to reports, at a little after 2 p.m., two vehicles collided at the intersection of East 53rd Street and 5th Avenue. Two pedestrians in the area were hit by the cars. They suffered unspecified injuries and were transported to an area hospital for treatment. Their current conditions are unknown. A third person was also taken to a medical facility for care, but it is unclear how he or she was involved in the event.

Neither driver was injured in the wreck. According to a video that accompanied the written report, charges were not immediately filed against either of these individuals. It is unclear if any charges are pending in this case.

Thankfully, the victims of this event are expected to recover, but what exactly does that mean? Will they fully recover and eventually be back to their old selves again, or will they be left in pain, dealing with a disability or suffering from the psychological effects often experienced when pedestrians are struck by automobiles? Unfortunately, only time will tell how these individuals fair.

According to the laws of New York, pedestrians who are hit as a byproduct of auto collisions may be entitled to seek compensation for their losses. These losses may be financial -- such as lost wages and medical expenses, they may be physical or they may be emotional. The victims of this event may file legal claims against the driver responsible for this crash. If their cases are successfully managed, they may achieve maximum relief through either negotiation or litigation.
