Elderly New York resident killed in pedestrian accident

Vehicle and pedestrian collisions often result in serious injuries or sometimes even death. What may have otherwise been a minor fender bender turned into a fatal crash when a man was struck by one of the vehicles involved. The New York resident lost his life after he became the victim of a recent pedestrian accident. The tragic series of events occurred despite one driver’s attempt to approach the man with caution.

The pedestrian accident occurred around 6:50 a.m. as an elderly man attempted to cross the street. According to the reports, he was crossing Seventh Ave. near 65th St. when an approaching Toyota slowed to avoid him. A Jeep slid and rear-ended the Toyota. The collision forced the vehicle forward causing it to ultimately hit the pedestrian.

The victim was rushed to a local New York hospital where he died as a result of his injuries. An early morning dusting of snow may have played a role in the two-car accident. It has not been determined if other factors may have also contributed to the crash. The police investigation of the incident is ongoing.

Should driver negligence be a factor in this case, the victim’s family may elect to file a wrongful death claim in a civil court. New York residents reserve the right to seek financial compensation for losses suffered as a result of a pedestrian accident, and in the event of a fatal accident, that right extends to the deceased victim’s surviving family. The unexpected costs that often follow such an incident may leave a heavy financial burden on them. A successful claim can assist the family with their financial recovery as they attempt to heal emotionally from the loss of their loved one.
