Fatal accident leaves questions about vehicle safety

The Slingshot is a three-wheeled motorcycle made by Polaris. Recently, the safety of this machine was brought into question after a fatal accident claimed the life of one man. When a manufacturing problem is believed to be at the heart of a motor vehicle accident, those in New York or elsewhere who have suffered injuries or lost loved ones as a result of the issue may be entitled to seek compensation for their losses through legal means.

According to a recent report, the sibling of a man killed in a crash while operating his Slingshot filed a report with auto-safety investigators, asking them to look into the manufacturing of the seatbelt retractor. The victim was supposedly in the process of changing lanes when his vehicle slid into another car. He was partially ejected from his motorcycle, despite wearing his seatbelt. He suffered a severed spinal cord and died shortly after the incident.

The initial investigation into the matter and pictures of the crash showed a potential issue with the seatbelt retractor. Nearly 5,000 vehicles from the 2015 line will be a part of the safety probe. No other issues with the seatbelt have been reported, though there have been previous recalls issued due to problems with the steering racks, headlights and fuel lines.

Vehicle manufacturers have a responsibility to their customers and the general public to provide machines that are safe and fit to be out on the street. It is unfortunate that faulty parts are sometimes installed and people suffer injuries or lose their lives as a result. Losing a loved one in a fatal accident or being injured in a collision resulting from a manufacturing defect can be tough to swallow. New York residents who have found themselves in such positions may be entitled to seek relief for their losses by filing claims in civil court against all those believed responsible.
