New York truck accident: Man struck and killed by box truck

Authorities in New York are currently investigating an incident involving a box truck and a pedestrian. The truck accident is said to have occurred early in the morning of Friday, Feb. 24. on the Upper West Side. Sadly, the victim failed to survive the collision.

According to reports, an 83-year-old male was crossing the road at West 95th Street and Amsterdam Avenue when he was hit by a truck. Police were immediately alerted to the incident. Upon their arrival, they found the victim still lying in the street unresponsive. He was promptly transported to St. Luke’s Hospital, but died either just before or after his arrival.

The driver of the box truck is said to be a 56-year-old male. He remained at the scene of the accident and is reportedly cooperating with authorities. At this time, it is unknown if any criminal charges will be filed against this individual. The official cause of this incident has not been reported, as investigators are still reviewing the situation.

Accidents involving pedestrians seem to happen all too frequently in New York. Many of them, sadly, have similar outcomes to this particular truck accident. The victim’s surviving family members — if they believe negligence contributed to the event — may be entitled to seek compensation for their losses. They can do this by filing a wrongful death claims against the driver and his employer in civil court. Proving negligence can be challenging to do, but if it can be done successfully, the court may award full damages for any documented losses.
