Bicyclist killed in truck accident

A woman biking near Central Park recently was hit by a garbage truck. Sadly, she suffered critical injuries and later died at a local hospital. According to the laws of New York, the surviving family members of this truck accident victim may be entitled to seek compensation for their losses.

On Friday, Aug. 10, at approximately 4:45 p.m., a 23-year-old woman was riding in the bike lane on Central Park West when a car pulled out in front of her. In order to avoid hitting the vehicle, she swerved from the bike lane. The driver of a garbage truck then struck her.

According to police, the driver of the garbage truck — a 44-year-old male — was impaired at the time of the crash. His blood-alcohol content registered at .04 percent, which, for commercial drivers, is the legal limit. He was charged with DUI. As of the latest report, no charges have been filed against the driver who pulled in front of the victim.

The victim was visiting from another country. Her family is heartbroken that this happened. If they wish, they may seek compensation by filing civil claims in court.

An experienced New York-based wrongful death attorney can assist them in filing the appropriate claims against the truck driver and possibly his employer. If this is deemed more than just a truck accident, claims may also be filed against the driver of the other vehicle involved. If settlement negotiations or litigation — if necessary — proves successful, maximum relief may be achieved.
