Driver responsible for truck accident had a suspended license

A young boy in New York recently lost his life after being struck by an oil truck. This incident occurred in the Bedford-Stuyvesant area on Jan. 26. The driver believed responsible for this truck accident is said to have been operating his vehicle on a suspended license.

According to a recent news report, a 13-year-old Queens boy was out for a bike ride on Lewis Avenue when he was hit by the truck. The truck driver was in the process of making a right-hand turn when he struck the child. The driver kept going, but witnesses to the event eventually were able to get him to stop and remain at the scene.

The child was transported to an area hospital with significant head trauma. Despite receiving medical care, he later succumbed to his injuries. The truck driver — a 28-year-old male — was criminally charged for his role in this tragic event. He has already pleaded not guilty and has been released on bail.

Losing a loved one, particularly a child, in an accident like this would present a number of challenges for anyone. The emotional pain and financial drain of an unexpected and untimely death is difficult from which to move forward. In this particular case, the victim’s surviving family members may be entitled to seek compensation for their losses by filing civil claims in a New York court against the truck driver, his employer and anyone else who may be responsible for the truck accident. If litigation or out-of-court negotiation proves effective, monetary damages may be achieved.
